I just love the occasional Andhra meal, and Palak Dal is one of the items that’s a part of every one of them. After some trials, I finally managed to come close enough to the original recipe. It’s a delicious dish and goes very well with rice (which I prefer) or rotis.
Ingredients
Method
- Pressure cook the dal in the 3 cups of water with turmeric and salt for 20 minutes.
- Once the steam settles down completely, open the cooker lid.
- Add the spinach and cook until the spinach is tender and mix with the lentils - about 30-35 minutes.
- In a separate pan heat the oil, add the cumin seeds and once they splutter, add the onions and fry till lightly browned
- Add the garlic, tomatoes, green chilli, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder and fry for 2 minutes.
- Add the dal and spinach and lemon juice, stir and heat through.
Garnish with fresh, chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with chapatti or basmati rice.
