Mangalore Buns

Mangalore Buns are delicious, spongy ‘buns’ made with overripe bananas and flour. As the name suggests, they’re a specialty of the town of Mangalore in Karnataka. The buns are generally a breakfast dish, but they’re also served as a snack with evening tea. The buns I’ve eaten in restaurants are just slightly sweet and served with sambar. However, owing to my sweet tooth, I prefer the sweeter version of it that my Mom makes. Here’s the recipe and I hope you like it as much as I do :).

Appam

Appams are a traditional breakfast dish in Kerala. They are rice pancakes that are soft and spongy in the center and have a thin, lacy edge. They go well with just about any gravy, though they’re usually teamed with some kind of stew, either mutton or vegetable. Back in Mangalore, we eat them with chicken curry or spicy pork curry.
Appams are easy enough to prepare once you get a hang of it. Go ahead and try it, you’ll see what I mean :).

Veg-Stew
A Kerala delicacy, this is a rich and delicious coconut stew with vegetables. It’s very mildly spiced and goes very well with Appams.
